SafeStart was developed and is still owned by Electrolab Training Systems, located in Belleville, Ontario. This family-owned and operated company serves the technical training needs of Canadian industry and educational institutions and is proud to be a global leader in workplace safety.
Their passion for safety helps clients achieve world-class safety performance. The international success of SafeStart resulted in Electrolab outgrowing their old facility on University Avenue in Belleville.
With growth in mind, Electrolab Training Systems contacted us to be the design-build firm for the new headquarters of their new SafeStart facility. We worked with Cromarty Architects, RBJ Concepts, McNeely Engineering (structural) and Greer Galloway Group (civil) as part of our design team to assist with the project from start to finish.
Electrolab desired an open bright, modern-looking collaborative space and also needed several specialized meeting and webinar rooms which they use for remote teaching opportunities. Their warehouse and assembly area package and ship their safety training literature to their clients and for on-site training at their clients' facilities. SafeStart also attends many industry and safety related trade shows.
To accomplish all of the requirements on our client's list we utilized Butler’s Widespan structural system which was primarily comprised of Clearspan frames allowing for total flexibility within the interior space. The building features a combination of Butler eShadowall and conventional wall construction with masonry exterior finish. The roof utilizes Butler’s ThermaLiner System (TLS) with an R38 tested assembly. The space was made bright with natural light brought in through several sections of curtain wall and through the use of 26 SunLite Strips to harvest daylight throughout the facility. Interest was added to the overall look of the building by attaching five single sloped structures into a single grouping.
Bel-Con is a partner in your project! They took a simple list of requirements and turned it into our dream building, winning Butler’s 2017 North American Building of the Year. They did this on time and on budget. It was one of the most respectful, collaborative and enjoyable projects of my career. Come tour our award-winning building and see for yourself.
