Bel-Con is proud to have been chosen as the design-builder for the new Iron Mountain secure records storage facility in Kingston. This facility has a 34’ high to accommodate a three level racking system complete with specialized record storage facilities. The building footprint is 33,600 sq.ft. and was designed to allow for a future 20,000 sq ft addition.
In order to minimize interior columns Butler’s Landmark framing system was utilized. The Landmark system features Butler’s Trusspurlin XT to allow for the 50’ clear bays between frames. An energy efficient building envelope was also a must have for this project and was accomplished by using Butler eShadowall and their Thermal Liner System (TLS) for the roof with a full R-38 tested insulation system.
The roof also had to meet and Factory Mutual requirements for wind uplift to ensure that Iron Mountain clients would have peace of mind that their valuable documents were protected from the elements. In that regard Iron Mountain also invested in a VESDA system that provides early detection of a potential fire by continuously monitoring the air throughout the building for even the most minor trace of smoke or air borne particulate.
This building is the first purpose-built facility that Iron Mountain has undertaken and is being utilized as their prototype for other facilities. The project was a tremendous success being completed on time and under budget which was the result of a great collaborative effort by Iron Mountain, Arencon, Bel-Con and of course our consultants and subcontractors.
We had not done any major work in Kingston, ON as a company in my tenure at Iron Mountain - let alone a ground up construction. We engaged with Bel-Con early on in the process for the design build of our new records center in the market. The experience from beginning to end was outstanding. Tom and his team really helped us to navigate the pre-construction work, design exactly what we needed, obtain our permits in an expedited manner and construct our new records center. I know the local team was thrilled to be able to sell into the space. Thank you Bel-Con!
